The young Dogtanian leaves his parents at their home in Bearn to go to Paris where he is to enter in the service of the Muskehounds, the King’s personal guard. With little more than a letter of introduction and his old horse Rofty, his adventures start on the road, where he makes his first acquaintance with two close associates of the conspiratorial Cardinal Richelieu, Rochefort and Milady.
